Monolith

imperial blue granite
10.5′h x 4′w x 1.5′d
2000, collection of the artist

Monolith consists of a play between natural and man-made surfaces. The parts formed by nature are balanced by surfaces carved by the artist. A channel inside allows water to flow over the piece like a waterfall. Two sets of intersecting concentric rings are carved into the face of the piece, derived from the geometry of a stone striking the surface of water.
