The Edge of Time
columnar basalt
14.5′h x 4′w x 3′d
1999, proposal for private collection
The Edge of Time stands as a witness to human activity. Its ancient basalt faces have been left mostly intact. The "forehead" has been carved with a shallow polished spherical depression, like a faceless clock, representing the circular nature of time. The triangular opening bounds the negative space, acting as both a frame and a symbol for the space beyond.
