R A I N : a water sculpture

copper origami, steel, cast bronze, water, fountain system
30′ h x 30′ diameter
2005, proposal for Sacramento, CA

Like a rain-chain the copper vessels allow water to run through them, filling and pouring one to the next. A simple hinge attaches each vessel to its support chains, allowing a rhythmic motion that runs down the entire sculpture. The vessels are hung from a large steel reinforced arm that attaches to the building and houses the nozzles that feed this kinetic water feature. The water falls into a 20’ diameter pool surrounded by seat stones that provide informal courtyard seating. The sculpture and pool are supported by a fountain-system consisting of plumbing, pumps and filtration.
